History
 
In the beginnings of San Francisco you can find the native Ohlone.  The first European visitors that traveled to what is now San Francisco was a Spanish exploratory voyage.  Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo led the Spaniards.  However, he did not find or notice the entranceway to the San Francisco Bay.  The next group of European visitors was the English, led by Drake.  However, he also sailed past the bay entrance.  Imagine what the two of these explorers missed.  The earliest European colonial settlements date back to 1796; Spaniards Don Gaspar de Portolà and Junipero Serra led them north from Mexico.
 
In 1848, San Francisco became part of the U.S. with the signing of the Guadalupe Hidalgo treaty.  This same year the California Gold Rush started.  This caused a great deal of immigration.  This was the beginning of San Francisco becoming culturally diverse.
 
In 1906 a 7.8 earthquake sparked many fires that are said to have destroyed 80% of San Francisco.  This did not get the people of the city down.  Almost instantaneously there were plans made to rebuild the city.  This city has grown from small settlements to a large metropolis with a diverse people.  It is definitely a place worth visiting.
